Irri–great Opportunity from Country Market!
Country Market is proud to announce that Farnham Local Food is the winner of the X-citing Projects campaign, which was launched back in May.
The campaign offers local charities, organisations and projects the chance of winning £1,000 to spend on anything they like to help them enhance their service.
After receiving multiple nominations from local residents and the readers of The Herald newspapers, Farnham Local Food was rewarded £1000, which they will use to set up irrigation systems for their own food production similar to those used at Country Market.
On the farm at Country Market they use a trickle irrigation system to conserve water use with water stored in their series of ponds specifically designed to harvest rain water for crops.
Following in the footsteps of Country Market, Farnham Local Food will be using the prize money to invest in their own irrigation system.
Farnham Local Food is a not-for-profit community garden, situated in Runfold and Dippenhall, which relies on volunteers and donations of second hand tools to be able to keep going and integrate themselves as part of the local community.
Sarah King, a volunteer from Farnham Local Food wanted to thank everyone who voted for them: “We are delighted to win this amazing and generous prize from Country Market and would like to thank them and The Herald readers for all their votes. Partly, it makes us aware how many local people know about our ground breaking project and admire what we do - really great news for any small community project. Equally so, the cash prize will enable us to carry on reaching out to even more local people encouraging then to get involved by learning how to grow vegetables and to actively be part of feeding their local community.”
Dean Marshall, Partner of Country Market, commented: “Since our X-citing Projects campaign launched in May, we have been overwhelmed by the positive response we have received from the local community. For us here at Country Market, Farnham Local Food was a group particularly close to our hearts. As farmers and growers of fresh produce, we are huge supporters of home grown food and encourage healthy eating so for us it was important to support the community garden as we continue in our bid to encourage local residents to ‘grow their own.’ We stock everything you will need to grow your own fruit and vegetables and we are always on hand to offer advice to our customers.”
Country Market has now re-opened the nominations and is encouraging readers to nominate a group that you feel deserves the £1,000 fund. The closing date is Sunday 24th November 2013.
