Potatoes.. "tasty tatters" direct from our farm shop

The world's favourite root vegetable has many varieties and we select the best for growing on our farm. Available direct to our customers from our farm shop at Country Market our potatoes are sold in large 25kg sacks, handy 10kg packs and loose.

Great Natural Food

Health benefits of fresh seasonal produce

The humble spud has many health benefits. For example, potatoes provide the body with an essential source of fuel and energy which you need even when dieting. This versatile and tasty vegetable is packed with vitamin B as well as potassium, magnesium and iron. It is said that this naturally tasty food also reduces blood pressure, helps protect against cardiovascular disease and with high levels of fibre is great for maintaining regular bowel movements.

There are medical benefits too - if you accidentally burn yourself gently press a piece of raw potato against the injury and it will take out the sting and help speed up the healing process.

Some great ideas for tasty dishes

Probably one of the more traditional uses will be as the roast potato and with the dark night's drawing in, many of us will now be finishing off our week by having a good old fashioned Sunday roast. At our farm shop we tend to recommend The Désirée as the best potato to use for roasties - a staple in any roast dinner!

We have also found a few more 'unusual' uses for this seasonal vegetable such as potato vodka, and potato pancakes - so why not give them a try! Recipes for these can be found on http://www.ehow.com/how_4900350_make-potato-vodka.html and http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Potato-Pancakes

Advice from our farm shop

At our farm shop, we recommend storing all potatoes in a dark area. Make sure all potatoes are dry before storing them and kept in a cool surrounding.

If you would like more information or advice on how to grow, cook or store potatoes then feel free to pop in and visit us at our Country Market farm shop, Bordon.
